The Committee's Environmental Issues Forums are held on legislative session days in the Capitol and are normally conducted once a month in those months in which the General Assembly is in session. These forums highlight environmental programs and challenges, and allow stakeholders to present directly to legislators.

The public is always welcome to attend the forums. Please watch this site for upcoming forums or contact the committee office at (717) 787-7570.

Environmental Issues Forums

March 20, 2017 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Room 8E-A, Capitol East Wing
Capitol Complex, Harrisburg
Joining us for the March forum will be representatives from ARIPPA, the state association of coal refuse energy producers. Using circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler technology, coal refuse facilities are able to generate up 10 percent of the state’s total electricity generation from abandoned coal piles, which are a primary source of acid mine drainage. To date, over 200 million tons of coal refuse has been recycled and over 7,000 acres of abandoned coal lands have been remediated by this beneficial industry.
